Sampler Quilt 2011 - Week 4 - Square Album Four Patch

This week is the Square Album Four Patch block. You'll have to have 3 fabrics (1 plus your background and accent fabric) and all will be from 2 inch strips.

A Square Album Four Patch calculator is available for different sizes, number and methods of blocks for your own project.

Background Fabric: Cut a 2 inch strip. Subcut into 4 squares.
Accent Fabric: Cut a 2 inch strip. Subcut into 4 squares and use the rest of the strip in the instructions to make half square triangles.
Extra Fabric: Cut a 2 inch strip and use it to make half square triangles from instructions.

Half Square Triangle

  1. Match 1, 2" strip each of Accent Fabric and Extra Fabric right sides together.
  2. Using a side right triangle ruler or template, cut 8 half square triangles pairs. Move ruler/template upside down for next cut when necessary.
  3. Using a regular ruler, trim triangles to 2" wide.
  4. Sew 1/4 inch seam on long side of triangle pair.
  5. Press seam to one side.
Finishing up block
Using a 1/4" seam, sew units together as shown in picture, first columns then rows. Press seams to one side.

Here's what mine looks like...
