Quilting Terms

charm pack - A charm pack is a bundle of squares. Common sizes are 3, 4 and 5 inches square. the number of squares in the pack vary.

fat eighth - A fat eighth is a piece of fabric about 9 inches by 20 inches.

fat quarter - A fat quarter is a piece of fabric about 18 inches by 20 inches.

honey bun - A honey bun is a bundle of 1½ inch wide strips that are about 40 inches long. The number of strips in the roll varies.

jelly roll - A jelly roll is a bundle of 2½ inch wide strips that are about 40 inches long. The number of strips in the roll varies.

layer cake - A layer cake is a bundle of 10 inch squares. The number of squares in the bundle varies.

leaders and enders - the scrap of folded fabric or unit you sew on and off of when chain piecing.

template piecing - a fabric cutting technique that uses either paper or plastic templates for cutting the pieces needed for your quilt project.
