New 1904 Star Block Calculator

I've just uploaded the 1904 Star Block calculator. It is a fairly intricate block that I made with multiple quantities only, but I think I've broken it down enough for easy assembly. It does use templates and  I have learned to embrace using templates except when my printer is out of ink :)

Kansas Troubles III

Here is yet another variation of the Kansas Troubles quilt block. In this version you'll again use squares, half square triangles and quarter square triangles to make this block. To calculate what size the finished pieces should be choose a quilt block size that is easily divisible by 8 and follow the formulas below. All triangle seam allowances are for triangles cut from strips using triangle rulers or templates.

1904 Star quilt block

The 1904 Star block is made with squares, half square triangles, quarter square triangles and peaky and spike blocks. It uses 6 fabrics and in this example I used 3 color groups.

For a 12 inch block, finished pieces sizes are...
Center square = 3 inches
Half square triangles in corners from 3 inch square
Quarter square triangles from 3 by 1½ inch rectangle
Peaky and spike unit is 4¼ inches square

Sampler Quilt 2011 - Week 12 - Ohio Star

The Ohio Star block is made from squares and quarter square triangle units. There is more than one way to make quarter square triangles, however, in order to use the strips as efficiently as possible, I'm using the companion angle ruler to cut triangles from strips. You'll be using the background and accent fabrics.

Sampler Quilt 2011 - Week 5 - Southern Belle

The Southern Belle block is made up of half square triangles and quarter square triangles. You'll need 2 fabrics (background and accent). From each cut a 2 inch and a 3½ inch strip.

A Southern Belle calculator is available for different sizes, number and methods of blocks for your own project.
