Sampler 2011 - Week 6 - Split Nine Patch

Split Nine Patch blockThis week's block is the Split Nine Patch. You will need three fabrics (background, accent plus one additional fabric).

Fabric 3
Background
Cut 1 strip 21/2 inches wide. Subcut strip into 3 A squares.
Cut 1 strip 27/8 inches wide. Subcut strip into 1 B square.
Fabric 2
Accent
Cut 1 strip 21/2 inches wide. Subcut strip into 3 C squares.
Cut 1 strip 27/8 inches wide. Subcut strip into 1 D square.
Fabric 1
Additional Fabric
Cut 1 strip 21/2 inches wide. Subcut strip into 1 E square.

Half Square Triangle Instructions
Figure 1
  • Match B and D squares right sides together.
  • Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on wrong side of lighter fabric.
  • Sew 1/4 inch seam on both sides of diagonal line.
  • Cut units apart on drawn diagonal line.
  • Press seam to one side.
  • Makes 2 half square triangle units.
Split Nine Patch Final Instructions
Figure 2
Sew block together as shown in layout, first rows then columns, with ¼ inch seam. Press seams to one side.
