Sampler Quilt 2011 - Week 26 - Formal Garden

The Formal Garden block uses 3 fabrics with half square triangle units and a square. The block fits a 3 by 3 square grid layout. Choose a background fabric plus a medium and dark fabric of 2½ inch strips.

Fabric Instructions

Background: Cut 8 half square triangles from 2½ inch strip.
Medium Fabric: Cut 8 half square triangles from 2½ inch strip.
Dark Fabric: Cut 1 square 2½ inches.



Half Square Triangle Instructions

Cutting: Using a side right triangle ruler or template, cut half square triangles. Move ruler/template upside down for next cut when necessary.

Sewing: Sew ¼ inch seam on long side of triangle pair. Press seam to one side.




Finishing the Formal Garden Block

Layout Formal Garden block as shown. Chain piece together using ¼ inch seam, sewing first rows, then columns. Press seams to one side.
