Big Block Baby Quilt

This quilt uses 1 block 36 inches square with 4 inch cornerstone borders. When finished you'll have a quick 44 inch square quilt using the Aunt Eliza's Star block, perfect for a baby.

Aunt Eliza's Star Block

Use the Aunt Eliza's Star block calculator with the settings as follows...
Block Size = 36 inches
Columns = 1
Rows = 1
Sew the block as directed.


Border

  • Cut 4 strips 4½ inches wide and 4 squares of the cornerstone fabric 4½ inches square.
  • Sub cut 4 long strips to middle with of quilt block top.
  • Sew 2 long strips to opposite sides of quilt top block using a ¼ inch seam.
  • Press seams toward border.
  • Sew cornerstones onto both ends of 2 long strips using a ¼ inch seam.
  • Press seams toward border.
  • Sew cornerstone border strips onto top and bottom of quilt top block using a ¼ inch seam.
  • Press seams toward border.

Quilt Sandwich

  • Place pressed backing right side down on a flat surface large enough to lay flat.
  • Tape in place at sides, then corners.
  • Lay batting on top of backing and smooth wrinkles.
  • Tape in place at sides, then corners.
  • Put pressed quilt on top right side up.
  • Smooth borders and blocks square, pushing excess toward middle. Quilting will take up slack and quilt will be square.
  • Pin baste 3 to 4 inches apart.
  • Quilt as desired using a walking foot. Adjust presser foot pressure to accommodate quilt thickness to prevent backing from sliding while quilting.

Binding

Use the binding calculator with the following settings...
Binding cut width = 2¼
Quilt Top Width (inches) = 45
Quilt Top Height (inches) = 45

VoilĂ , you're done.
