Sampler Quilt 2011 - Week 32 - Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania block is a 3 by 3 square grid layout with squares and four patches. We'll be using 2 fabrics, a background and accent fabric.


Fabric Instructions

Background Fabric: Cut 1 strip 2½ inches wide and at least 10 inches long. Subcut strip into 4 squares. Cut another strip 1½ inches wide and at least 12 inches logg.
Accent Fabric: Cut 1 square 2½ inches. Cut a strip 1½ inches wide and at least 12 inches long.

Four Patch Instructions

  1. Using 1 strip each from Background and Accent fabric right sides together, sew strips with a 1/4 inch seam.
  2. Press toward darker fabric.
  3. Subcut strip set into 1½ inch wide 2 patches.
  4. Match 2 sets right sides together with opposite fabrics together.
  5. Sew using a 1/4 seam on one side
  6. Press to one side.
  7. Make 4 four patches.

Finishing Instructions

Layout block pieces using four patches and squares as shown in diagram. Chain piece first rows, then columns using a 1/4 inch seam. Press seams to one side.
