Sampler Quilt 2011 - Week 17 - Jacobs Ladder

Jacob's Ladder is a nine patch grid layout block using four patch units and half square triangle units. Use 3 fabrics, background and accent fabric plus an additional coordinating fabric.

Fabrics

	Background fabric: Cut 1 strip(s) 1½ inches wide. Cut 1 strip(s) 2⅞ inches wide. Subcut into 2 squares.
	Accent fabric: Cut 1 strip(s) 1½ inches wide.
	Coordinating fabric: Cut 1 strip(s) 2⅞ inches wide. Subcut into 2 squares.

Instructions

Four Patch Using 1 strip each from Fabric 1 and 2 right sides together, sew strips with a ¼ inch seam. Press toward darker fabric. Subcut strip set into 1½ wide 2 patches. Match 2 sets right sides together with opposite fabrics together. Sew using a ¼ seam on one side Press to one side. Make 5 four patch(es).

Half Square Triangles Match one square each of fabric 1 and 3 right sides together. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on wrong side of lighter fabric. Sew ¼ inch seam on both side of diagonal line. Cut units apart on drawn diagonal line. Press seam to one side. Makes 2 units per square pair. Make 4 per block for a total of 4.
