Sampler Quilt 2011 - Week 22 - Birds in the Air

Birds in the Air has half square triangles and squares and uses 2 fabrics.

Fabrics

fabric 1Fabric 1:  Cut 1 strip 2½ inches wide. Subcut into 3 squares and 6 half square triangles using a side right triangle ruler also known as a half square triangle ruler.
fabric 2Fabric 2:  Cut 1 strip 2½ inches wide. Subcut into 6 half square triangles using a side right triangle ruler also known as a half square triangle ruler.

  1. Cut half square triangles from strips as listed in cutting instructions.
  2. Match half square triangles of each fabric right sides together and sew ¼ inch seam on long side of half square triangle; press toward darker fabric.
Make 6 half square triangle units.

Layout pieces as shown in diagram and chain piece block, first rows, then columns, using a ¼ inch seam. Press seams to one side.
