Garden Quilt Along - Sunflowers

Finished 12” by 18”
All seams are ¼ inch unless otherwise noted.

Cutting Instructions:
Background – (1) 12” square & (6) 2” x 8” strips.
Fence – (1) 1½“ x 12” strip & (6) 2” x 7” strips.
Sunflower petals – (4) 5” squares.
Sunflower centers – (2) 2” x 3” rectangles.




Sewing Instructions


  1. Cut a 2 ½” strip from one side of background 12” square.
  2. Sew 1½” x 12” fence strip between previously cut background pieces; press toward fence.
  3. Perpendicular to fence strip cut six 2” strips. 
  4. Right sides together, with (2” x 7”) fence strip on the bottom and (2” x 8”) background strip at 45 degree angle on top.
  5. Sew diagonal seam where strips cross on outside.
  6. Trim off corner to ¼”; press toward fence.
  7. Alternating fence post strips with fence rail strips sew block, aligning bottom.
  8. Square up block to 12½” x 18½”.
  9. Cut out 4 sunflower petals and 2 centers using templates.
  10. Appliqué 2 petals offset and 1 center for each flower.
