Bright Hopes quilt

This Bright Hopes quilt measures about 52 inches square and uses the same block just turned for a fun effect.

Use the Bright Hopes quilt block calculator to make 9 blocks 12 inches square. Arrange blocks in 3 rows by 3 columns and turn them as desired. Sew blocks together with a ¼ inch seam.

Border 1 uses 4 strips 2½ inches wide plus 4 cornerstone squares 2½ inches.

Border 2 uses 6 strips 6½ inches wide.

Backing and batting should be at least 58 inches square.

For a double thick mitered binding, use the calculator for 52 inch square quilt.

Happy Quilting,
Jeanne

Bright Hopes - Other layouts

The Bright Hopes block can be used for more than simply a block in a quilt. Break the block pieces up into smaller squares and you can have a scrappy watercolor style quilt with large blocks.

Sampler Quilt 2011 - Week 1 - Bright Hopes

Bright Hopes blockFor 48 weeks a new 6" block will be posted each Friday or Saturday to make a throw sized sampler quilt. There will be 1" sashing with complimentary cornerstones and quilt will measure about 43" X 57" before borders. In choosing the fabric for the blocks, I'm going to use a consistent background fabric and 1 accent fabric for each block. Allow about 1/2 yd of both fabrics for all the blocks.
